CEREC Restorations
CEREC is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration
of Esthetic Ceramics.
CEREC restorations are made from ceramic, a natural
substance that is particularly compatible with the body. The CEREC
ceramic has the same characteristics as normal, healthy dental enamel.
This means it is similarly hard wearing, for example
when undergoing the daily grinding of chewing food. Nor is it affected
by hot or cold, coffee or ice cream. Furthermore, the ceramic is
so smooth that bacteria do not stand a chance.
You will not experience a strange metallic taste or suffer effects
from electric currents, which can be created when two different
metals are located in neighbouring teeth.
A CEREC restoration has a natural look, as it
is made out of tooth-coloured ceramic material. It's metal-free
and no silver fillings discolour your smile! The ceramic material
is compatible with tissue in your mouth, is high grade, anti-abrasive,
and plaque resistant. It allows us to be extremely precise and save
more of the healthy part of your tooth. It can be used for partial
and full crowns, veneers, and all other single-tooth restorations.
Even under close inspection there is no difference
between your tooth and the new restoration. See for yourself:
How Does The CEREC Work?
First, we prepare the damaged tooth by painting
a thin layer of reflective powder directly on the tooth's surface.
Using a special camera, we then take a picture of the tooth. We
work from this photo, which is actually a pin-sharp optical impression
of the tooth.
Computer Aided Design technology helps us design
the restoration from the optical impression. You can actually watch
us design your new restoration on a full-colour computer monitor
right before your eyes!
Then CEREC creates an extremely precise restoration,
also while you watch. A high-speed diamond bur and a disk work simultaneously
to mill the restoration out of a solid block of ceramic material.
Finally, we bond the newly milled restoration to the tooth using
state-of-the-art adhesive dentistry.
Over a decade of clinical research and experience
supports the CEREC technology. User input and research has helped
the manufacturer improve the product during this time. Dentists
have performed over two million restorations world wide.
